Urban and Property Development

In 1992, with the investigation having drawn to a close, the focus of the business returned to Sydney, with a series of assignments for the (then) Property Services Group, an administrative unit of the New South Wales government. Over the next five years, those assignments were to involve the Firm with almost every major urban development project in that State: in Newcastle with the Honeysuckle Development Corporation, and in Sydney with both the Homebush Bay Development Corporation and the City West Development Corporation. Two further relationships began at that time: the Firm’s first associations with Landcom and with the New South Wales Department of Housing. In parallel, that work also led Trudeau & Associates to various assignments for the New South Wales Premier’s Department, and for the New South Wales Department of Urban Affairs and Planning. “It is more than interesting to us as a Firm”, says Benoit, “that many of those relationships have endured over time and are alive to this day. It is one of the great satisfactions of this business that our associations with clients span years, and speak to true and active collaborations”.

In 1996-1997, Trudeau & Associates saw earlier work in property and development projects bear additional fruit, in the form of an extension into the field of construction. This new work gave the Firm the base and the reputation it needed to begin winning strategy development work with fund managers specialising in property-related funds, as well as with providers of corporate real estate services, based on knowledge and expertise we had begun acquiring as early as 1992. Work in this area is now one of the mainstays of the business, and a source of great professional satisfaction, largely because of the relationships that have been established in that field, as well as the depth and scope of work carried out with the Firm’s clients. “It’s an area in which we have been able to bring to bear our acquired knowledge of property and development, and which, coupled with our appreciation of financial environments, allowed us to become worthwhile contributors in discussions on matters of strategy and business performance analysis”, says Benoit.
