The Inception of Trudeau & Associates

Trudeau & Associates is an independent firm of advisers on strategy development, diagnostics and business performance improvement.

Its Sydney office, which looks after the operations of the Firm in Asia-Pacific, opened its doors in 1991. As Benoit Trudeau, its founder, recalls: “I wanted to structure a business that would assist clients in exploring and formulating business futures with both more imagination and rigour than I had seen applied in traditional approaches to ‘planning’, with their single-minded focus on revisiting budgets”.

It was this rigour of approach, coupled with an understanding of how organisations actually operate that brought the Firm its first substantial assignment.  Benoit was appointed to lead the team assembled by the Auditor-General of South Australia to investigate the collapse of the State Bank of South Australia. “It was”, recalls Benoit, “an intellectual and professional turning point – an extraordinary learning experience, as well as an occasion to put into practice approaches to organisational systems I had been reflecting on for a long time.”
